FERIA DE FRONTERAS
A project of EU Culture Programme 2007-2013

Feria de Fronteras is a party at the border. It is a crossroad between cultures and people, where we meet and share, inquire and offer answers about borders set and borders unseen. Feria de Fronteras is a platform for artists coming from different disciplines and cultural workers who will jointly perform in order to create a creative space for presenting, questioning and erasing borders between people and cultures. Feria de Fronteras invites Europeans, but also those who will soon become Europeans to think about the impact of borders in their own lives.

‘Feria de Fronteras’ has four corners and each represent one organization from Belgium, France, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and from each corner different activities will be created and creatively connected. In order to ensure that borders are revealed Feria de Fronteras will offer a set of solutions and views on borders while at the same time celebrating the potential of individuals, citizens and artists to be actors of change through a multicultural band "Mafiasko Taxi", visual art exhibition "High-Wire Act", photo exhibition "Break-on-Through" and a documentary film "Borders".

Activities

c1

Mafiasko Taxi

The musical project Mafiasko Taxi (a.k.a Tijuana Tango) brings together different musicians, from different countries, with different musical backgrounds. A wide variety of musical styles and songs come together, from sevdah or flamenco, passing by tarantelle or rumba, up to cumbia or fado. Old songs and new songs. Mafiasko taxi is a musical invitation for people to think about borders and differences. Or so called borders and differences...

Jelena Milušić, Bosnia Herzegovina/Germany (vocals),

Nathan Daems, Belgium (saxophone, clarinet),

Filip Vandebril, Belgium (double bass),

Sebastian Wiesner, Germany (percussion) and

Thomas Morzewski, France (piano, trumpet).

c2

High-Wire Act

High-Wire Act will gather various visual artists in one exhibition that will have different versions according to the country and the place where it will be presented. Each version of the exhibition will be adjusted for the context specifics like geographical place, exhibition space, lead event, etc. The adjustments will be made on at least two levels: selection and number of local artists which will result also in the so called message of the exhibition.

c3

Break-on-Through

The photo exhibition will invite young photographers to share their ideas on cultural identity inside New Europe and across existing or non-existing borders. Photography as a perfect creative tool would invite people to think about those European regions they are less familiar with, in order to encourage openness toward differences and to reduce existing prejudices.
